Invaluable for Spa treatments, Rhassoul is an extraordinary mineral rich clay that is excellent for cleansing, detoxifying and general skin treatment

Rhassoul is an ancient lava clay found deep under the Atlas Mountains in Morroco. Translated from Arabic, it means ‘the matter that washes’. It is because the clay contains saponins that effectively remove impurities and excess oils. Rhassoul is 100% natural and ecological. The clay not only works to remove impurities from your skin and hair, but it replaces them with nourishing trace minerals.

Hair Cleansing - The clay is mixed with equal quantity of hot water and left to 'swell' for about 10 minutes and applied to wet hair by sections. Comb through without rubbing into the scalp. Rhassoul does not foam, but it contains saponins which will remove impurities and excess oils. If you have very dry or frizzy hair, it is a good idea to add 1 tsp of olive oil to the mix before applying to your hair.

No surprise that some call it ‘soap clay’. Rhassoul has been used since Ancient times as both shampoo and body cleanser, and in the Hamam rituals in combination with black olive soap and argan oil. Rhassoul is 100% natural and ecological. It contains more silica, magnesium, potassium, calcium and other trace minerals than other clays. The clay not only works to remove impurities from your skin and hair, but it replaces them with nourishing trace minerals.

Hair Cleansing
The clay is mixed with equal quantity of hot water and left to 'swell' for about 10 minutes. The mixture should be fluid and runny so if necessary add more water. Apply to wet hair by sections, starting from the back and moving forward. Comb through without rubbing into the scalp. Rhassoul does not foam, but it contains saponins which will remove impurities and excess oils. If you have very dry or frizzy hair, it is a good idea to add 1 tsp of olive oil to the mix before applying to your hair. Leave the clay for 10 mins for dry hair and 20 mins for oilier hair. Then rinse off under the shower. Normally you shouldn’t need a conditioner, but if your hair tangles easily you may want to use one. The first time you use rhassoul on your hair, you may think your hair is not clean enough. We are so acustomed to using foaming products that if there is no foam we automatically think we are not clean. Which is not true of course. My hair was good enough for almost 4 days, which is as long as it would go when washed with a shampoo. Using rhassoul to wash your hair will make it soft, thick and quite voluminous (not a good idea for my fine but thick hair).
My recommendation would be that if you do like your hair fine & sleek you are best using your shampoo & conditioner after rinsing the clay.

Skin cleansing
The mixture should be with the consistency of porridge, not too runny so it drips, and not too thick so that it is easy to spread. Leave on the skin for at least 5-10 minutes, then wash off.

Having used rhassoul a number of times, I appreciate it may not be a product to use on a daily basis, since most of us are pressed for time in the morning, and those with children in the house find they hardly get any time at all, but if you do find yourself with some spare time on your hands, do give yourself and your hair a nourishing treatment. It is definitely worth it!

300 gr glass jar with aluminium top

Customer feedback: "On hair wash day I laughed because of disbelief. This clay bought colour back to my natural 4C hair, cleaned it and made it super soft and easy to comb. I came out of the shower and could see my natural curl pattern. This is my third time using rasshoul clay. Last year when I tried rasshoul clay my hair didn't feel this way. Back then my hair was in a bad condition. My hair felt sticky and I was using shampoo that was full of bad chemicals. Now I use Natural Herbal SLS Free Shampoo with Organic Aloe Vera & Jojoba - Psoriasis Blend by Handmade Naturals and my hair is healthier. I think this helped the rasshoul clay to really work this time! I will see how long it keeps my hair moisturised" Megan
