Why Are Organic Beauty Products Better For Your Skin?

People swap their skincare routine for many reasons, from simply enjoying organic body products more than their chemical-laced equivalents to making an ethical or environmental choice.

In other cases still, it is about seeing how far people can replace their everyday essentials with alternatives that are better for their skin, better for their health and better for the world than products that have traditionally been more convenient.

Regardless of the reason why, organic products are better for your skin, and here are just some of the reasons why.

They Do Not Take Chemical Shortcuts

It would be false to say that conventional skincare products do not work, but what is important for the long-term health of your skin is how they work, as some of the fast-acting active ingredients used in these products can have long-term consequences.

Preservatives such as parabens, moisturising agents such as mineral oils and soft paraffin, and many fragrances and pigments can work in the short term but can lead to long-term consequences such as skin irritation, allergic reactions and even toxicity.

Organic products, by design, use plant-based products that typically have more long-term positive health effects on your skin.

Their Ingredients Come From Nature

The term “natural” has been misappropriated in advertising, particularly by companies with an interest in greenwashing, but it is easy to spot beauty that truly comes from nature, through the use of essential oils, plant-based emulsifiers and a short list of ingredients you recognise.

Beyond being natural products, organic products are grown without the use of artificial agricultural chemicals such as fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides.

By choosing organic, you are using ingredients that are inherently beneficial to your skin and overall health.

They Are Less Likely To Cause Allergic Reactions

People with sensitive skin often struggle to find the right products for them, as the harsher chemicals in a lot of conventional products can lead to redness, soreness, irritation and sometimes worse depending on just how harsh the ingredients are.

Whilst organic products are not inherently hypoallergenic, as people can be allergic to natural ingredients such as fruits, peanuts or wheat, these types of allergens are far easier to spot and there are many alternatives that would avoid a bad reaction.

They Use A Greater Proportion Of Active Ingredients

Conventional skincare tends to use a small proportion of active ingredients mixed with a range of preservatives, emulsifiers, water and fillers that make it a palatable product to apply to your body.

By contrast, organic products tend to be primarily made up of active ingredients that work to cleanse, moisturise and enhance the effects of other lifestyle decisions such as healthy diets and regular exercise.

They Work On A Fundamentally Better Philosophy

Most conventional skin products are designed around hiding blemishes, often forcefully and with the aid of harsh ingredients, but is this the best path to beautiful skin?

It is better, instead, to opt for products that nourish the skin, providing vitamins, minerals and ingredients that help to give our skin a healthy glow rather than mask supposed blemishes.
