Travel-Sized Organic Skincare Products For Your Holiday

The summer is here and if you are going on holiday over the next few months, no doubt you have already put a lot of effort into choosing the perfect destination and coordinating your itinerary. Maybe you have already started planning your holiday wardrobe and packing, but it’s important not to overlook skin and haircare.

Long journeys, disruption to your usual diet and sleep routine, and different climates can take its toll, causing issues such as dry skin, breakouts, and unmanageable hair. It can be difficult to know which products you will need, and bringing too much adds unnecessary weight and bulk to your luggage.

Travel sized cosmetics are often limited to a small number of big brands that may not be aligned with your ethical values or skin and hair type. However, there’s no need to compromise this summer. Here’s a guide to travel-size organic skincare and haircare products that are plant-based, vegan and cruelty-free.

What to pack in your holiday beauty bag

Cleanser and toner

Cleanser is a non-negotiable inclusion to effectively remove dirt, pollutants, sunscreen and makeup at the end of a long day. Opt for a gentle foaming formula that effectively removes dirt without stripping the natural oils from your skin. Look for natural soothing ingredients such as aloe vera, and avoid irritants such as sulfates and artificial colours and perfumes.

If you are prone to oily skin and breakouts, toner is a very useful product to remove the last traces of makeup or sunscreen that could block pores. However, many toners contain alcohol and parabens, which can be excessively drying and irritating.

Instead, go for citrus ingredients such as orange blossom, which has natural antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It tightens and rejuvenates the skin, and is perfect for those times when you want a quick refresh without fully cleansing your face.

Moisturiser and serums

Travel can easily dehydrate the skin, particularly if you are making a long-haul flight in a low-humidity environment. If you are prone to dry skin, look for intense moisturising products such as cocoa butter, argan oil, or shea butter.

For a more lightweight choice, look for a balancing cream with jojoba oil and chamomile to soothe any rashes or inflammation. If you struggle with oily skin or acne, look for naturally antibacterial and soothing ingredients such as tea tree oil and witch hazel.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is essential for any type of skin and climate, even if you are not anticipating a lot of hot sunny weather on a staycation! For natural organic alternatives to mainstream brands, look for mineral-based products such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Natural ingredients such as green tea, avocado oil and aloe vera can help to manage sensitive skin.

Hair care products

Even if your hair is in great condition, high humidity, sun exposure, and saltwater or chlorine can take its toll, causing frizz and dryness. Using organic natural haircare products that are free from sulfates and synthetic colours and fragrances will help to protect your hair from further damage.

Look for shampoos with nourishing ingredients such as coconut oil, jojoba oil and organic aloe vera. For an intensive treatment for dry, frizzy or curly hair, look for rich conditioners that contain murumuru butter and macadamia nut oils. This can be used as a regular conditioner, or left on for ten or 20 minutes before rinsing for a deeply nourishing hair mask.

Multi-purpose balm

A versatile balm can be used as a lip moisturiser, cuticle softener, or to soften dry patches on your skin. Opt for a formula infused with shea butter and essential oils for a protective, nourishing boost.

So there you have it: keeping your skin and hair looking their best on holiday doesn’t mean making compromises on quality or ethical values. Once you find products you like, you can reuse the travel-size packaging, or invest in your own reusable bottles. This reduces waste, is better for the planet, and is also more convenient and economical for you.
