How To Stay Smooth After Shaving

During the wintertime, skin can become very dry, thanks to the chilly weather, which is why it is important to take particularly good care of your body when it is colder outside. Shaving, especially, can lead to dry, irritated skin, so here are some tips on how to stay soft, as well as smooth.

Exfoliate the skin

Before you take a razor to your skin, make sure you exfoliate it. According to Gillette, this removes dry and dead skin cells and makes it easier to achieve a smooth, clean shave. It also helps lift hairs from the skin, so they are easy to get.

Use shaving cream or gel

Soap is not enough if you want a good shave, as it does not provide much of a lubricant for the razor. Therefore, it is important to use a properly formulated shaving cream or gel if you want to avoid dry, flaky skin

Use a moisturiser immediately

After you have shaved, whether you’re doing your legs, arms, or face, it is essential you look after your skin straight away. Firstly, rinse with hot then cold water, as this will remove residual cream and close the pores. Then apply a moisturiser to the skin to prevent it from drying out.

Protect from the sun

Shaved skin will be sensitive for a while, so it is important to protect it from the sunshine, as this can cause it to become dry, flaky, or burnt.

Dermatologist Rachel Ward told Cleveland Clinic to wait 24 hours before exposing skin to the sun, adding: “Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30 and reapply after swimming in water or after sweating.”
