Hemp Oil and it's benefits for healthy skin

Cold-pressed hemp oil extremely beneficial not only for our body but also for skin health thanks to its super emollient qualities.

It is an incredibly nourishing oil for skin on many levels - it plumps the look of your skin, firms and tightens your skin's appearance, and also provides powerful antioxidant activity to help promote beautiful skin.

Where does Hemp oil come from

Hemp oil is pressed from hemp seeds and it is rarely refined. The oil is clear green colour and has a nutty flavour which varies in intensity depending on the harvest.

Although it comes from the canabis sativa plant, it does not contain any THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive components.

Skin Benefits of Hemp oil

Excellent Skin Emolient

In addition to consuming the oil, or taking capsules as a dietary supplement, you can absolutely apply it on your skin too. Hemp oil is a super emollient (highly moisturising), which does not clog the pores and it has even been found helpful in not only moisturising the skin, but also balancing out oily skin by providing hydration and thus regulating the sebum producing glands. It comes as no surprise that it is recommended for acne sufferers, in the cases where acne is caused by over production of sebum.

Powerful anti-inflammatory

Hemp is one of very few natural oils which has a perfect balance of omega oils in a ration that contributes to optimum absorbtion. The gamma-linoleic acid GLA contained in hemp oil acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory which aids skin cell regeneration and encourages healthy skin growth. This makes hemp particularly suitable for inflamed and irritated skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and acne.

Anti-ageing

Hemp seed oil is rich in antioxidants (Vitamin E), carotene (precursor to Vitamin A), phytosterols, phospholipids and a number of minerals including calcium, magnesium, sulfur, potassium, phosphorus, along with modest amounts of iron and zinc. The Omega 3 and 6 that hemp oil is also rich in are essential fatty acids that have been proven to encourage collage production, which in turns leads to reduced fine lines and wrinkles and delaying the signs of ageing.

All in all another fabulous plant derived skin care ingredient, I am sure you will all agree. We don’t sell the pure hemp oil on it’s own as it is a somewhat fragile oil with relatively short shelf life. We do however use it in 2 formulations in our skin care range - the Hemp, Rose & Jojoba Facial Cleanser and the Organic Shea & Hemp Balm which is a versatile, multi-tasking balm suitable for face cleansing and moisturising for all skin type, including sensitive skin.

If you like to use soap - two of our soaps also contain hemp oil - the Hemp & Patchouli Hair & Body Bar and Juniper & Avocado Hair & Body Bar . If you already have hemp oil in your kitchen why not get creative by adding it to face masks or applying the neat oil to your skin as needed.
