Get Party Ready: Top Tips For Glossy Hair And Glowing Skin

Christmas is almost here, and it’s a time when we all want to look and feel our best, whether for a big party bash or a gathering of your nearest and dearest. If your hair and skin are in beautiful condition, then the rest will easily follow. However, at this time of year, they can be prone to irritation and dryness from the cold air and heated environments. 

The disruption of seasonal events can also take its toll on your skin, as late nights, more alcohol and rich fatty foods can cause it to look duller or become oilier and more prone to breakouts. Extra styling of your hair with heated tools or colouring treatments for special occasions can make it more frizzy and unmanageable. 

Here’s a look at how natural hair care products and skin care routines can help to keep your skin and hair looking soft, healthy and radiant during the party season. 

Prep your skin for a gorgeous natural glow

Start by gently exfoliating your skin with a cleansing scrub. Avoid any synthetic ingredients or products containing coarse particles that could irritate your skin and upset its natural moisture balance. Look for products that contain natural ingredients such as bamboo grains combined with enriching oils, which will remove dead skin cells without overly drying it out. 

Apply a rich soothing balm for delicious soft skin

Next, apply a nourishing cream to lock in moisture. If you have very dry skin and perhaps also issues such as eczema, try natural ingredients such as shea butter and argan oil, which contain essential fatty acids and anti-oxidants. Special tip: this cream also doubles up as a smoothing balm for very dry and brittle or frizzy hair. 

For a lighter touch

If your skin does not require such intense hydration or is naturally oily and prone to breakouts, look for a lighter formula, such as serum containing hyaluronic acid and aloe vera. This easily absorbed product will provide your skin with a soft dewy glow without clogging pores.

For party-ready hair

Prep your locks with a luxurious mask the day before a big event for a glossy sheen and lustre. Ingredients such as coconut oil, murumuru and macadamia are ideal for curly or frizzy hair. 

Look for a versatile conditioning formula that can be used as a hair mask, a pre-shampoo treatment, a regular conditioner, or a leave-in treatment, depending on the type of hair that you have and the look that you want to achieve.

If you are going to be blow-drying your hair and using hot irons to achieve a party-ready style, then be sure to use a heat protection spray with added conditioners such as argan oil and Brazilian keratin.  

For an extra level of shine, apply some oil such as moringa, which has a lovely light texture and will make your locks glossy and smooth from day to night. Apply sparingly so your hair is not weighed down, but retains just the right elasticity and bounce.

Don’t forget your hands

The winter can be hard on the hands, particularly in December when we are extra busy with all the tasks of the season such as shopping, cooking, gift wrapping and prepping the house ready for visitors. Keep your limbs soft and smooth with a hydrating avocado body lotion or a richer buttery formula such as shea and coconut. Apply soon after a bath or shower to lock in moisture.

If you’re heading for a big night out, pop some facial mist in your bag to keep your skin looking fresh and dewy. Apply it from a distance of at least 20cm for a light coverage that won’t affect your makeup. 

Finally, carry a small tube of hair oil so you can reapply it to smooth away any flyaways and frizz, and keep your locks luscious and shiny all evening.
